Yishun Pond Nature Cinematography
Time flies and it's my fourth year in photography! I would love to say it's my first year into videography, but unfortunately I took a very long break after shooting my first video and am back to square one.
In addition to FYP bogging down my mind, horrible video quality also discouraged me from experimenting with videography. I know that the quality of videos from DSLRs is a far cry from photographs, but my videos look like they were shot using a potato (figuratively). Details were lacking, especially for wide angle shots with complex subjects e.g. forest. My smartphone video was far superior in comparison.
I have posted on forums seeking the reason behind the poor quality, and it seems that Canon's codec was to blame. For my favourite wide angle shots of nature, I would need to use gear more suited for videography if I want crisper footage.
I still wanted to learn more about videography, so I went out to shoot at Yishun Pond. For this shoot, I set my camera at 720p 60fps to obtain slow motion. Of course, this means my wide angle shots look more horrible and potato-like. Nevertheless, I like the cinematic feel of the video.
