Since I have embarked on the zero-waste journey, I became more conscious about the products I buy. When it comes to snacks, many are packaged in plastic lined with aluminium foil, which makes them unfit for recycling. A lot of tidbits are wrapped individually too. This means that a light snack can generate a lot of unnecessary waste.
But.. does that I cannot indulge in snacks anymore?
I love munching on food when editing photographs. Fresh fruits are definitely a viable option, but I still prefer having some snacks which can last longer.
I was delighted when I saw Alison's Pantry in Cold Storage. It occupies a small section in the supermarket and features a variety of healthy snacks in bulk bins. You scoop any amount you want into a ziplock bag. Next, you write down the product number and bring the bag to the cashier for weighing.

As the weighing machine at the cashier does not have a tare function, I decided to use the plastic ziplock bags provided. After the purchase, I transferred the snack into my containers and kept the bag for my next shopping trip.

I bought BBQ rice crackers (promotional price of $1.59/100g) and chocolate pretzel bow ($2.99/100g). I stored them in a glass container which I brought all the way back from Canada and an empty spaghetti sauce jar. As you can see, I have nearly finished my chocolate pretzel bows.
There are other options for zero-waste snacks e.g. Unpackt but this is the most accessible store for me. I hope more zero-waste stores open in Yishun soon.
