Shooting the Blood Moon (again!)
On 28 July 2018, Singapore witnessed one of the longest lunar eclipses. Although the event would only begin at 1.15 am, by 9.30 pm I had all of my equipment and entertainment devices set up outside my house (I had to leave early as my family was going to sleep).
This event was different from the previous lunar eclipse. The moon was a micromoon, which meant that it was at its furthest position from the Earth. However, Mars was moving closer to the Earth and can be seen together with the Moon in the night sky.
I tried to photograph Mars but all I obtained was a little blob of light. Here is a photo of the blood moon with the red planet:
I did not have my tripod with me and had to improvise a support for my telephoto using my light stand. It was incredibly shaky and my photographs were not as detailed as my shots from the previous event. Thus, I stacked pictures of the full moon with the Blood Moon to improve details:
The next total lunar eclipse will not happen until 2021, so this is a moment to be cherished!
